A sister school for The British International School, Budapest? |
Its facilities are basic, its location almost inaccessible, but the ground-breaking ceremony of the Nord Anglia Spring Bud School was celebrated with joy and high expectation.
Its facilities are basic, its location, almost inaccessible but the ground-breaking ceremony of the Nord Anglia 'Spring Bud School' was celebrated with uproarious joy and high expectation – not just from the parents. The school is to be built in Gansu, the second poorest province in China, to replace one of the 400 schools lost in the earthquake.
Nord Anglia, the company behind The British International School, Budapest and several other highly regarded schools across Eastern Europe and Asia, has a commitment to leading positive change through education and itself follows the ethos of global responsibility as espoused by its schools. The Director of Nord Anglia International Schools, Mike Robinson himself, made the 12-hour-trip from Shanghai for the ground-breaking ceremony–9 of those hours in a less than luxury minibus on hardly recognisable roads. Despite the extreme poverty of the town, the reception given to the representatives of Nord Anglia was overwhelming in both its joy and generosity. Though somewhat bruised and battered by the journey and having ingested many unfamiliar dishes, quite probably never before encountered by a westerner, Mike Robinson said he had found the experience the most emotional of his entire career.
Supported by Nord Anglia, The British International School, Budapest has a strong commitment to learning through service to the local and global community.Through its International Baccalaureate programme and the Global Citizens Award scheme, the students are involved in many projects which develop initiative and independence. The school community recently raised an outstanding three million forints as a result of the Christmas Fayre which will be used to support local charities as chosen by the students. We hope the new year will show the results of this fundraising and the opening of Budapest's first charity shop developed and managed by BISB business students.... watch this space!
