Foreign students attacked |
Within a couple of days two foreign students were victims of crimes in Budapest. Ophélie Bretnacher 22 year old French Erasmus student went missing on December 4, while walking home from Portside de Cuba, a downtown club around 3 am.
Her purse was found on Lánchíd by another foreign student containing her ID and mobile phone. The Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) set up a seven-member detective group to find the student. According to the footage of the surveillance cameras in the area Ophélie had reached the Roosevelt tér safe, without any encounters. The police even used a diver squad to search the Danube but with no results. According to friends and family Ophélie was a cheerful person with plenty of plans and she could not have committed suicide. On December 6, a taxi driver found a naked, badly beaten American student in Dist XI and took her to the police. The 21 year old girl, requested to remain anonymous was heading home from a spa night through a park near Bakáts tér where she was attacked, beaten and raped. The police have already arrested four people in connection with the case. The investigators have concluded that two cases are not linked.
