For The Sun
A few years ago, my parents and I flew to Morocco where we rented a car and drove around the fascinating countryside. After a few days, we all noticed we were quite tired and eventually determined that we probably needed to drink more water. We thought we had made some major strides when we managed to ask for a bottle of water in French, both with and without "gas".
At one sidewalk café, we obtained our bottle of water but no glasses. I knew I had once known the word for "glass" from college French, but my mind was blank. I tried Spanish, but that didn?t work; so I resorted to English and thought I had succeeded when the waiter nodded and left.
When he returned, he had three ice creams. Apparently, he had interpreted my glass request as the French "glace". We laughed and ate our ice creams; and sometime later, I remembered the correct word - "verre".
