Kusturica’s latest dream

Serbian director, Emir Kusturica’s trademark, the exaggerated slapstick and well-built, over-romanced characters are settled in his latest film, Promise Me This (Zavet) as well. The movie follows the 12-year-old Tsane, living in a 3-person village, who promises his grandfather to get a wife in the city. But before Tsane finds true love, he first has to face a cruel but star-crossed mafia leader. At cinemas in the original language with Hungarian subtitles from Aug 21.

Visual journey

Debuting director Eric Brevig formerly made a name as visual effects supervisor and now has shot “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, that, unsurprisingly, isn’t lacking spectacles and special effects. The movie shows an adventurous science professor (Brendan Fraser), discovering a bizarre lost world in the center of the earth while backpacking across Iceland. At cinemas from Sep 4.

Two-face Gosling

After his outstanding performance in the touchingly funny drama “Lars and the Real Girl”, Ryan Gosling has become a favorite of critics and film aficionados as well. In his latest movie, “Half Nelson”, Gosling portrays an eighth-grade teacher who holds interesting history lessons in the daytime but cruises between pubs under the influence of hard drugs and alcohol. When one of his young students discovers his secret, they form an unlikely friendship. At cinemas from Sep 18.
