Ecosummit

Fidesz will not participate in implementing a bad decision, commented Viktor Orbán, Chairman of opposition Fidesz in an interview with Hungarian news channel HírTV last Sunday on his and his party's planned non-attendance at the economicsummit commenced by Ferenc Gyurcsány PM.

His staying away is a protest against the government’s planned restrictions, said Orbán. “I want to make it clear that Fidesz will not co-operate with any parties against the people,” he added. “This co-operation initiated by the socialist is actually against the people and aims to push the frog down on people’s throat, which is the restriction package. We will not partner in this,” he continued.Fidesz has a different “European method” for the crisis management; that is why Fidesz will not participate the summit, said Orbán.Previously Gyurcsány wrote a letter to Orbán asking him to participate the summit “for the interest of the country, the people and the Hungarian enterprises.” In his letter, Gyurcsány asked the leader of Fidesz to delineate his plan on the summit about giving more support to Hungarian enterprises and reducing taxes without endangering social security and budgetary balance, said Dávid Daróczy, governmental spokesperson. According to the government, these four goals cannot be achieved at the same time, but, if Fidesz comes up with a real, coherent and implementable solution, the cabinet is ready to accept that, Daróczy added.
The PM proposed to discuss the economic crisis next Thursday (Nov 20).
