Russian-American violinist Alexander Markov performed the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Budapest Concert Orchestra (MÁV) on December 12 to a full and enthusiastic house at the Academy of Music.
Another violin virtuoso who does, in fact, have the subtlety, refinement and good taste to make real music is the young Japanese woman Akiko Suwanai, who was the youngest-ever winner of the Tchaikovsky Violin Competition when she was only 18. She will play Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, conducted by Iván Fischer, at the Palace of Arts on Saturday, December 27 and twice on Sunday, December 28.

György Budaházy, extreme right leader, wanted to protest against Hanuka in front of the Dohány utca Synagogue on December 18, reported Hungarian Daily, Népszabadság. Budaházy requested permission for the demonstration, as a private person which was refused by the police on the basis that it would cause traffic problems.
Within a couple of days two foreign students were victims of crimes in Budapest. Ophélie Bretnacher 22 year old French Erasmus student went missing on December 4, while walking home from Portside de Cuba, a downtown club around 3 am.
János Kóka was elected as faction leader of liberal SzDSz again. Kóka won by four votes against József Gulyás.
